The Badlands National Park is in the South West corner of South Dakota and lies within the Buffalo Gap National Grassland. I camped near the East entrance of the park at a well worn campground in Cactus Flat. There I met a fellow biker named Matthew Ramsey who was heading East to return home to Indiana. This was the first night I was at a camp ground where there were other bikers. We were only 100 miles from the famous motorcycle rally held in Sturgis South Dakota and it was in full swing. That night a huge thunderstorm passed just a few miles to the South of us. We sought shelter in the campgrounds laundry room playing cards while the storm passed. I did go out to take some pictures and was able to get this picture of heat lightning off in the distance.
